Education

Dieci have an exciting and innovative education programme that is designed to inspire and engage, making singing and classical music a live and accessible experience for all. The interactive workshops cater for people of all ages and abilities and the team of experienced practitioners can tailor each session to suit individual needs and circumstances. The workshops are led by all eight singers in Dieci who have a wealth of teaching experience amongst them, providing a support system that encourages confidence and motivates participation in quality music making.

The collaborative nature of the workshops is ideal for building confidence, self-expression, teamwork and leadership qualities as well as providing a sense of ownership and achievement through the music created. The aim is to promote learning about singing and classical music. People don’t know what they are missing until they know what they are missing! Dieci provide an opportunity to explore the possibilities of singing in an enjoyable and relaxed atmosphere. The ultimate aim is to have fun and to achieve a high standard of performance together.

Workshops use a format that may include:

  • Learning through games, chants and songs.
  • Learning about the singing voice, including voice types.
  • Learning about compositional structures.
  • Learning about different musical styles.
  • Learning different languages through song.
  • Learning and performing a/several new piece(s).
The workshops are an ideal vehicle for interdisciplinary learning within the education system, providing a fresh and practical style of work that is entirely relevant to the curriculum for excellence. Dieci use singing as a tool to bring together different learning communities and offer new and exciting approaches to education and social integration. Most workshops culminate with an evening performance by Dieci, during which participants have the opportunity to perform the music they learned with the octet.

Some comments after Dieci workshops have included:

“Please thank all the members of Dieci for their hard work with the children. They were buzzing about it and thoroughly enjoyed both the workshop and the performance!”

“Once again thanks for coming along to the school - you are welcome any time.”

“The phone hasn’t stopped ringing, everyone loved it.”
