Christopher Hann (Musical Director)
Christopher began his musical career at an early age when he became a chorister at his local church on the Isle of Wight. After completing a degree in Music Systems Engineering at the University of the West of England, he spent a year as a choral scholar at Portsmouth Cathedral before coming up to Scotland and the RSAMD. He currently studies with Stephen Robertson. Away from the RSAMD, Chris sings with various choirs including Cappella Nova, Ludus Baroque, Glasgow University Chapel Choir, Edinburgh Camerata and Laudibus. Chris was also Tenor 1 section leader in The National Youth Choir of Great Britain (NYC). Whilst with NYC he was involved in four major CD recordings, performing works by composers such as Giles Swayne and Heinrich Schütz, performed two concerts with The Sixteen, taken part on there World and European tours and worked with such conductors as Sir David Willcocks, John Rutter, Harry Christophers, Ralph Allwood and Eric Whitacre.

During the last year Chris has appeared as a soloist with a number of choirs including The RSAMD Chamber Choir, Ulverstone Bach Choir, Glasgow Cathedral Choral Society and Ayr Choral Union performing works such as Bach’s St John Passion, Christmas Oratorio and Magnificat, Handel’s Messiah, Weilhnachts-Historie by Schütz and Mozart’s Requiem. His Opera work in the past year has included singing in the chorus for the RSAMD’s joint production with Scottish Opera of Eugene Onegin by Tchaikovsky and Dialogue of the Carmelites by Poulenc in which he was also understudying the role of L’armonie. Away from the RSAMD he has sung in the chorus for Dorset Opera’s production of The Pearl Fishers by Bizet and sung in the chorus for a performance of The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagony by Kurt Weill at the Edinburgh International Festival. His future plans include singing in the chorus for the RSAMD’s production of Love for Three Oranges by Prokofiev a performance of Bach’s Christmas Oratorio with Ludus Baroque, a number concerts with Cappella Nova, a CD of music by Scottish composers with Laudibus and various solo engagements including Mendelssohn’s Elijah, two Bach Cantata’s BWV 61 & 140 and Te Deum’s by Charpentier and Haydn.

In addition to Dieci Chris is also the musical director of The Kilbarchan Singers. When he is not singing or conducting Chris enjoys playing Tennis and watching most sport, particularly football. Chris is a mad Portsmouth FC fan and his mood is often dependent on how well Pompey are doing!

Ross Sharkey Ross Sharkey
Scottish Actor/Musician, Ross Sharkey, holds a BMus (Hons) in Vocal Studies with an Endorsement in Community Music, and an MA in Musical Theatre Performance from the RSAMD. A recipient of an RSAMD Trust Scholarship and an Ian Fleming Musical Theatre Award, administered by the Musician’s Benevolent Fund, Ross was highly commended in the Jean Highgate Scholarship and commended in the Governors’ Recital Prize for singing.

Ross began his musical training upon entering the RSAMD’s Junior Academy of Music, where he studied piano and singing. During his school years as a pupil of St Margaret’s High School, he was a recipient of both music and drama prizes, a winner of the Monklands’ Rotary Club Young Musician of the Year, and the Glasgow Music Festival.

Ross has toured Scotland and Germany with the RSAMD Chamber Choir and sung in joint opera productions between the RSAMD and Scottish Opera. These have included, Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin and Prokofiev’s The Love for Three Oranges, both performed at the Theatre Royal, Glasgow, and the Edinburgh Festival Theatre. Other chorus work includes Les Contes d'Hoffmann by Offenbach and Poulenc’s Les Dialogues des Carmelites.

Recent performances include Swingin’ into Christmas, RSAMD; Stainer’s Crucifixion, St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral, Glasgow; Candid Cabaret, Oran Mor, Glasgow; John Barrowman’s, Tonight’s The Night, BBC; Ernst in Spring Awakening (Scottish premiere) and Ornithology in Closest to the Moon (World premiere); both at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Workshops include Jonathan Cooper and Barb Junger’s, Tiger Tamer; Richard Taylor’s, Everest; Connor Mitchell’s, Old 100th; and Douglas Maxwell’s, The Bookie; working with directors Laurie Sansom, Roger Haines, Marylin Cutts and Ed Robson.

Ross has taken master-classes with Mary King, Stuart Barr, Malcolm Martineau, Patricia McMahon, Nadine George, Jacquie Crago, Maurice Clark, Jon Robyns, Adrian Kirk, Lindsay McDonald, Viv Gee, Anne-Liis Poll, Nikki King, James Brining, Simon Beck, Ken Alexander and Morag Fullerton.

An active teacher, Ross has a particular interest in community and educational music and has taught for a number of theatre organizations. From 2007–2010, Ross was a member of the vocal staff of UK Theatre School, Glasgow. In addition, he taught for the musical theatre programme at the RSAMD’s Dramaworks. He led workshops for Little Larks, the Aberdeen International Youth Music Festival, Starlight Youth Theatre, Confidance Musical Theatre School, Room 13 and Sounds of Progress.

In addition to this, Ross held the post of Organist and Choir Master at Newton Mearns Parish Church, from 2007–2010.

Ross will spend the Christmas season in Norfolk, performing in the Thursford Christmas Spectacular, before relocating to London.

David O’Hanlon
David O’Hanlon began his vocal training four years ago studying with operatic tenor Daniel Meades. For the last three years he has been singing as a member of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain and has performed with them under the direction of notable choral conductors such as John Rutter, Sir David Willcocks and Eric Whitacre as well as performing alongside the King Singers. David spent the best part of 2008 and 2009 working as a Teaching Assistant and Music Technician at Langley Park Boy’s Secondary School. During this time he also had the good fortune of conducting their Chamber Choir. Last September he began the four year BMus Vocal Studies course at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, studying with Alan Watt. Since starting at the RSAMD he has been lucky enough to have been in two opera productions, the most notable of which was a critically acclaimed production of Prokofiev’s War and Peace at Glasgow’s Theatre Royal.

Dominic Barberi Dominic Barberi
Dominic Barberi commenced studies at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in 2008 with Stephen Robertson. He has sung chorus in Prokofiev’s Love of Three Oranges, Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffman and Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro. Winner of the Jean Highgate Scholarship for Singers at the end of his first year he went on to represent the Academy in the Junior Kathleen Ferrier Competition.

Dominic has competed in the final of the Frank Spedding Lieder Prize Competition and this year performed the role of Jacqout in Prokofiev’s opera War and Peace as well as understudying the role of Bartolo in The Marriage of Figaro.

From 2003 Dominic was a member of Tees Valley Youth Choir under the direction of John Forsyth, and received lessons from Gillian Sild and Deborah Caterall. Dominic was a member of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain from 2006 and their chamber choir Laudibus from 2007.

Solo engagements have included Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Faure’s Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem, Dixit Dominus and Messiah by Handel, Rossini’s Messe Sollenelle, Purcell’s’ Ode To St Cecilia’s Day 1692, Five Mystical Songs and Fantasia on Christmas Carols by Vaughn Williams and the role of the Usher in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Trial By Jury.

Forthcoming engagements include the Stainer Crucifixion. Faure’s Requiem, Vaughn William’s Sancta Civita, Rossini’s Messe Sollenelle, Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s Creation and Mozart’s Requiem at The Sage.

This summer saw him singing the role of The Trojan Man in Mozart’s Idomeneo under the direction of Sir Roger Norrington in the Edinburgh Festival.

Dominic has performed in master classes with Geoffrey Lloyd Roberts, Mark Padmore and Malcolm Martineau.
